The A to Z Study Strategy: The "Study Course" is always selected by default. This is the traditional way to use CPAexcel. With this strategy, you move through the Table of Contents, top to bottom, in a methodical manner covering every piece of study text and every question:
1. Select the Lesson and Study its Content
From the "Course Selector" panel on the Home Page, select the Business Environment and Concepts exam section. Once the Table of Contents (TOC) has loaded in the left panel, open the Economic Concepts section, then the Microeconomics subsection and click on the lesson titled Demand. In the Lesson Overview that loads in the right hand content panel, click "Study Text" and read the material.
2. Use “Proficiency Questions” to Test Your Initial Knowledge Retention
Return to the Lesson Overview by clicking Demand in the TOC again. Notice that your study time has been recorded on the Lesson Overview. Select “Proficiency Questions" (PQs). PQs are simple questions designed to test your reading comprehension and measure your initial knowledge retention.
You may access PQs in "Study Mode" and get hints, or in "Exam Mode" and receive an exam that will be graded and recorded. Choose Exam Mode to see the AICPA exam interface that you will be required to use in the live exam.
Answer all the PQs, then select the "Grade" button. You will be guided back to the Overview page. Click on the small pie chart in the "Last Score" column. This will update the larger pie chart at the bottom of the page. Lastly, click on the details button below the large pie chart to view the answers and rationals.
If you did not get a 90%, you can press "Retake" and take the quiz again, or simply return to the Lesson Overview by selecting Demand from the TOC.
3. Use “Past Exam Questions” to Test Your Ability to Apply Your Knowledge
From the Lesson Overview, select "Past Exam Questions" (EQs). EQs are past AICPA exam questions and/or CPAexcel-authored simulated exam questions that are designed to test your ability to apply the concepts outlined in the study text. You may access EQs in "Study Mode" and get hints, or in "Exam Mode" and receive an exam that will be graded and recorded. Choose Exam Mode to see the AICPA exam interface that you will be required to use in the live exam.
Answer all the EQs, then select the "Done" button in the upper right corner.
4. Improve Your Grades
Upon completing the PQs and EQs, you will automatically return to the Lesson Overview and be presented with your grade. If your score was less than 90%, you ought to study your results via the "Details" button and retake the exam by selecting "Retake". CPAexcel recommends returning to lessons by clicking the title and studying until a 90% proficiency is reached. Once the progress icon turns green, or you reach 90%, you may move on to another lesson. The progress icons change color to reflect your latest exam results.
Select the "Scorecard" button. The Scorecard is designed to show your performance across all of the testable points in the exam. Use the Scorecard to pinpoint your weak areas, focus your study time, and see how your latest exam affected your aggregate score. From the Scorecard, you may return to the Lesson Overview page by selecting a lesson title in the outline on the left.
While this is a tried and true method, one strategy does not fit all, especially if time is limited. Therefore, we encourage you to also consider CPAexcel's other Study Strategies: Diagnostic Exams and Exam Tutor.
