Proficiency Questions

Selecting "Proficiency Questions" from the overview will load the "PQ Start Page" into the content panel. Here you may decide to use proficiency questions as a study tool by viewing them at your own pace and receiving immediate feedback for each answer.

Alternatively you may feel prepared to test yourself by selecting "Exam Mode."

A short description of each mode follows:

PQ Study Mode

The characteristics of Study Mode are defined as follows:

Lesson - Indicates the lesson questions are associated with.
Sequence Number - Since questions are shuffled each time you launch them from the EQ Start Page, this number is useful only in knowing your present location.
Proficiency Question Number - Whenever making reference to a PQ in a query, comment or statement, note this PQ number. It is unique and permanent to this question.
Back Buttons will take you to either the first question in the series, or the previous question.
The Progress button will take you to the Progress Page. You can resume the exam by clicking on the Forward button.
Forward Buttons take you to either the next question, or the last question in the series.

PQ Exam Mode

Selecting Exam Mode from the PQ Launch Page will trigger a new window to open. It looks like the Study Mode window but functions differently.

The characteristics of Exam Mode are defined as follows:

When To Use Exam Mode:

Almost every single section of study material has practice material associated with it. Practice materials are made up of Proficiency Questions, Flashcards and Past Exam Questions. They help refine and reinforce the most important concepts contained in a lesson.

Once you feel you're ready to move on to the next lesson, we suggest taking a lesson exam to be certain. Selecting "Exam Mode" from the PQ launch page will change the functionality of the PQ exam and you will be tested on the information you just learned.

The exam will be timed and you will receive no indication of whether you answered correctly until you click "Done." At this time your score will be calculated and you will return to the Lesson Overview page in CPAexcel. Here you may review your answers by clicking the Details button, compare your last score to previous ones, opt to retake the same exam or move on to your scorecard to see how your test affected your overall grade.

CPAexcel recommends reaching an 90% proficiency in a given lesson before moving on to the next.

FAQ: Why does the pie chart say I got one score, but the lesson overview tell me I got another?

If you are studying and answering Proficiency Questions, clicking the "Grade" button will provide "Current Score". This indicates how many questions you answered correctly as a first response.

If you click "Resume", this first response will be 'remembered' and questions you answered incorrectly on first pass will remain incorrect in the current score, even if you change them.

Clicking the "Reset Scores" will wipe away all memory of first responses and allow you to attempt a higher score by answering correctly on a first pass.

Your final option is to click the "Save and Exit" button. Save and Exit is not concerned with the order in which you answered questions, or how many times you attempted. It records only study time and the final state of the questions - right or wrong.

Save and Exit will post your final score to the overview.
So, in short, the Pie Chart displays correct first responses, the Overview displays correct final scores.
