Past Exam Questions

Selecting "Past Exam Questions" from the overview will load the "EQ Start Page" into the content panel. Here you may decide to use past exam questions as a study tool by viewing them at your own pace and reading the rationale behind each answer.

Alternatively you may feel prepared to test yourself by selecting "Exam Mode."

A short description of each mode follows:

EQ Study Mode

The characteristics of Study Mode are defined as follows:

• Time Constraint OFF - You may view the questions for as long as necessary.
• Hints ON - If you select an answer that is incorrect, the rationale for that answer will appear to serve as a 'hint.'
• Progress Report Only - Study mode will not end in a results page, but you may view your overall score by clicking the grade button. You will be taken to a progress page that will display your overall score so far. From there you may return to the questions at any time.
• Immediate Results ON - Your selection is marked correct, or incorrect instantaneously.
• Scores Not Recorded - Once you have answered questions and left the progress page, your scores are discarded and you will have no record of the quiz. To have results recorded, you must return to the EQ start page and select "Exam Mode."

Sequence Number - Since questions are shuffled each time you launch them from the EQ Start Page, this number is useful only in knowing your present location.
Exam Question Number - Whenever making reference to an EQ in a query, comment or statement to CPAexcel staff or fellow students, use this EQ number. It is unique and permanent to this question.
This box contains the grade and rationale for your selected answer. It may serve as a "Hint" towards the right answer, or an explanation of the correct selection.
Back Buttons will take you to the first question in the series, or the previous question.
The Progress button will take you to the Progress Page. You will be able to return to the questions.
Forward Buttons take you to the next question, or the last question in the series.

EQ Exam Mode

Selecting Exam Mode from the EQ Launch Page will trigger a new window to open. CPAexcel believes that by becoming familiar with what will occur on the actual CPAexam, a candidate can improve their performance. CPAexcel has therefore recreated, as closely as possible, the interface used in the actual CPA exam.

The characteristics of Exam Mode are defined as follows:

• Time Constraint ON - Exam Mode will automatically calculate the amount of time you will be allocated for answering the questions. The formula is based on the amount of questions in an exam, multiplied by the average time CPAexcel estimates a candidate will have to answer a similar question on the real CPA exam.
  
  The time allocations are as follows:
  
  FAR = 120 Second per Question.
  AUD = 140 Seconds per Question.
  BEC = 120 Seconds per Question.
  REG = 75 Seconds per Question.
  
• Hints OFF - Rationales will not appear until you end the exam and are delivered to the Overview page.
• Progress Report OFF - Study mode will not end in a results page, but you may view your overall score by clicking the grade button. You will be taken to a progress page that will display your overall score so far. From there you may return to the questions at any time.
• Immediate Results OFF - Your selection is marked in black.
• Scores Recorded - Once you have answered questions and clicked on the "Done" button your scores are recorded. You will be returned to the Lesson Overview page where they may be viewed. To view the details of the exam scroll down and click on the "Details" button below the large pie chart labeled "Latest EQ Score".

When To Use Exam Mode:

Almost every single section of study material has practice material associated with it. Practice materials are made up of Proficiency Questions, Flashcards and study mode Past Exam Questions. They help refine and reinforce the most important concepts contained in a lesson.

Once you feel you're ready to move on to the next lesson, we suggest taking a lesson exam to be certain. Selecting "Exam Mode" from the EQ launch page, you'll be taken to the AICPA interface (exactly the same one you'll see the day you sit for the exam) and be tested on the information you just learned.

The exam will be timed and you will receive no indication of whether you answered correctly until you click "done." At this time your score will be calculated and you will return to a Overview page in CPAexcel. Here you may review your answers by clicking the Details button, compare your last score to previous ones, opt to retake the same exam or move on to your scorecard to see how your test affected your overall grade.

CPAexcel recommends reaching an 90% proficiency in a given lesson before moving on to the next.
