What are Guided Seminars?

The foundation of every CPAexcel course is the Core Study Materials and the Efficient Learning System™. Together, these comprise the Self Study Course, which is all that many students need to pass the exam. However, most students prefer the structure and support of the Guided Seminars.

Guided Seminars are professor-led distance courses where experienced professors from leading U.S. universities lead students through CPAexcel's computer-based course materials, provide scheduled assignments, monitor student progress and answer questions - all from wherever you choose to study.

Each assignment covers a block of lessons listed in the Table of Contents. You typically have three days to complete an assignment, with completion defined as getting a 90% score on the testing materials. You are free to retake the tests until you earn 90%. You can study either online or offline, connecting only when you send in your scores, communicate with your professors and peers, or check for updates.

The Guided Seminar includes an online student/professor message center and bulletin board where you receive your assignments, view your grades, ask questions and get answers. Questions and answers are visible to all students, creating a worldwide learning community. You can also send private emails to your professors if you would like to be addressed individually.

How Do Guided Seminars Work?

Seminar Schedule
The CPAexcel Guided Seminars are conducted year round on every exam part. Each seminar covers one exam part (e.g. FAR). Seminars are 60, 40, 30, or 15 days in length to suit your learning rate, prior knowledge level and schedule. The content is the same regardless of the length. View upcoming seminar dates.

Registration
Register for the seminars of your choice on this website. We recommend taking one seminar at a time for optimal learning.

Assignments
You will receive assignments starting the first day of the seminar both by email and in the Message Center. The average weekly study time for a 30-day seminar is 23 hours. FAR includes more course material and may require more hours. You do not need to wait until the seminar begins to start learning. After you order you can access your course materials and give yourself a head start.

Professor Assistance
Guided Seminar students receive unlimited assistance from CPAexcel's professors. Using the simple online Student Discussion Interface, students can ask professors questions on any course topic or study component. You can have the answers addressed to you individually or shared with the discussion group. Professors also provide ongoing support, tracking each student's progress.

Grades
After completing each assignment, send your scores to your professors who will monitor your progress. If you study using the online version of CPAexcel, your scores are automatically captured. If you study offline, or a combination of online and offline, a simple procedure lets you synchronize your scores for submission. Proficiency is defined as earning a 90% score on each testing topic. You can retake the exams as many times as necessary to gain proficiency.

Simulations
Although Simulations are an integral part of CPAexcel, they are not included in the seminar schedule and are to be studied independently. Your CPAexcel professors are available to help all seminar students work through the simulations and answer questions.

Free Seminar Retakes
You may retake a seminar of the same or different length for free at any time before you pass the exam. If your study schedule is interrupted or you would like to take the course again, you can do so knowing you will receive free course updates and seminar retakes.
